Our programs at The June Bug Center are designed to enrich the lives of participants and our wider community in Floyd, VA. Through JAMs (Junior Appalachian Musicians), students dive into the rich tradition of Appalachian music, learning to play instruments and explore local culture. Our Blue Ridge Strings program introduces students to the art of music, allowing them to develop their skills while connecting with others who share their passion. Each program is designed to captivate young minds and encourage active participation, ensuring every student stays engaged and excited about learning.
ENGAGE
At The June Bug Center, we offer a variety of engaging programs that foster creativity, learning, and teamwork. From after-school classes like STEAM, where kids explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on projects, to interactive Improv and Theatre classes that build confidence and communication skills, we create environments where students thrive.
INSPIRE
At The June Bug Center, we believe in the power of the arts and education to inspire future generations. Our programs don’t just teach skills—they ignite passion. In our Collaborative Storytelling program, kids learn storytelling, creativity, and problem-solving, all while exploring the world of role-playing games. Our Music Education offerings, like Blue Ridge Strings and JAMs, inspire a love for music, culture, and collaboration. Through every class, performance, and event, The June Bug Center is a place where students and community members alike can find inspiration and express their creative potential.
CATCH THE BUG!
The June Bug offers afterschool programs Monday through Friday during the school year, with scholarships available to those on the free or reduced lunch plan.
We are home to numerous performing arts groups in the community; including the New River Theatre Guild and Blue Ridge Story Space.
We host classes in our movement arts studio throughout the week led by highly qualified instructors from our community.
