Drama Society Instructor – Spring Semester

 

About the Role

The June Bug Center is seeking a passionate and reliable Drama Society Instructor for the Spring semester. This class focuses on building confidence, creativity, and foundational acting skills through ensemble-based work, theatre games, and scene study in a supportive, inclusive environment. The goal of the Spring semester is for the class to rehearse and perform a straight play (non-musical) at the end of the term.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead weekly Drama Society classes aligned with The June Bug Center’s educational philosophy

  • Create engaging lessons that balance skill-building with rehearsal toward a final straight play production

  • Foster a positive and encouraging classroom environment for students of varying experience levels

  • Guide students through the rehearsal process, including character development, blocking, and ensemble work

  • Support students in developing acting fundamentals such as voice, movement, and text analysis

  • Communicate clearly with JBC staff regarding class progress, student needs, and attendance

  • Prepare students for an end-of-semester performance and any related informal sharings

  • Maintain classroom organization and uphold JBC policies and expectations

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and/or teens in theatre, education, or a related field

  • Background in acting, theatre education, directing, or performance-based instruction

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

  • Dependable, collaborative, and enthusiastic about arts education

 

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Spring semester commitment weekly on Fridays from 3:30-5:30

  • Competitive hourly pay, commensurate with experience

Assistant Acting Out Instructor (Spring 2026)

The June Bug Center is seeking an Assistant Acting Out Instructor to support our youth theatre program for the upcoming spring semester. This role is ideal for someone with theatre experience who is passionate about mentorship, stagecraft, and working with young performers.

 

About the Role

You will serve as a mentor and support partner to a novice director who is stepping into her first semester of leading a production. The assistant instructor will provide guidance, stability, and a strong theatre foundation while respecting and reinforcing the lead instructor’s decisions and creative vision.

This position also acts as a stage manager during rehearsals and a backup instructor, prepared to lead the class if the lead instructor is absent.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the lead instructor by assisting with warm-ups, blocking, rehearsal organization, and classroom management.

  • Serve as a theatrical mentor, offering experience-based insight to help the novice director grow in confidence and skill.

  • Model and maintain professionalism, collaboration, and a positive learning environment.

  • Help manage class flow, transitions, and student engagement during 90-minute weekly sessions.

  • Take on a stage management role, coordinating props, cues, scene transitions, and backstage organization.

  • Lead the class independently when needed, following the established lesson plan and director’s creative direction.

  • Assist students in understanding basic theatre etiquette, performance skills, and respect for the rehearsal process.

 

Qualifications

  • Prior theatre experience (performance, stage management, directing, or tech) required.

  • Experience working with or supervising children ages 7–12.

  • Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to support and uplift a new instructor.

  • Ability to reinforce the lead instructor’s decisions while offering thoughtful guidance.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Must pass a background check prior to hiring.

 

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time: 90-minute class once per week + occasional planning time.

  • Spring semester position (approx. 12 weeks).

  • Compensation based on experience.

Beginner Ballet Assistant (Spring 2026)

Due to significant growth in our Beginner Ballet program, we are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Ballet Assistant to help ensure classes run smoothly and students feel supported.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the instructor with classroom management

  • Helping lead and support warm-up activities

  • Assisting students as they learn choreography

  • Supporting the instructor throughout the duration of the course

  • Being prepared to step in and run class if the instructor is unavailable

  • Helping students catch up if they miss a class

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Experience with ballet or dance education preferred

  • Enjoys working with children and supporting a positive classroom environment

This role is ideal for someone who loves dance, works well with kids, and is excited to be part of a growing program.

Lego Club Assistant (Spring 2026)

The June Bug Center is seeking a reliable, creative, and kid-focused Lego Club Assistant to support our weekly after-school Lego Club for students ages 7–11. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on activities, works well in a classroom setting, and is excited to help young builders explore STEAM concepts through play.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lego Club Instructor with classroom management and maintaining a positive, engaging learning environment.

  • Support students with their LEGO projects, builds, and weekly STEAM challenges.

  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills among participants.

  • Help prepare materials and organize the classroom before and after each session.

  • Be prepared to lead class activities or fully cover the session in the event of instructor illness or absence.

  • Communicate with the Instructor and Program Coordinator regarding any student concerns, incidents, or supply needs.

Qualifications:

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Prior experience working with children ages 7–11 in a classroom or group setting.

  • Comfort assisting with hands-on building activities and guiding students through challenges.

  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a positive attitude.

  • Ability to follow the Instructor’s lesson structure while also taking initiative when needed.

  • Willingness to complete a background check prior to hire.
