Held every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30, Musical Theatre for Kids is designed for theater-loving kids ages 8–12 to develop their confidence, character, and presentation skills through ensemble performance. Students learn acting, scene study, improvisation, music theory, singing, and dancing, while building self-esteem, teamwork skills, and creative potential. This fall, we're cooking up something big—a beloved story full of fairy tale chaos, unexpected friendships, and a whole lot of heart. Two performances at the end of the semester will give families a chance to see what students have worked toward all season. Stay tuned for show and date announcements! Performances will be in early December. The official dates will be announced soon.

Students will spend the week learning a variety of role playing games that will inspire their imaginations and offer opportunities for creative problem solving, narrative exploration and improvised adventure. Player’s will embody an assortment of unusual characters with unique motivations, work together as a team to achieve narrative goals and help guide the stories with their own creative visions. Camp Schedule: Each camp runs for one week and meets 3 hours per day. Snack Break: There is a 20-minute snack break at the halfway point each day. Snacks are generously provided by Feeding Southwest Virginia. Because of this partnership, options are limited—students with dietary restrictions are encouraged to bring their own snack if needed. Pick-Up Policy: A parent or approved pickup person must come inside to pick up their student. Alternate arrangements must be made in advance with the program coordinator and require a signed note. Stay Hydrated: It’s summer and it’s hot! ☀️ Students are encouraged to bring a personal water bottle each day. For the 2026–2027 programming year, we’re introducing a “Pay It Forward” option as part of our semester tuition. By adding an additional $25, you directly support our scholarship fund and help ensure that the June Bug Center remains accessible to all students across the New River Valley. Floyd JAM allows students to choose from a list of instruments to learn on: fiddle, guitar, or banjo. All instruments are provided to enrolled students, which is included in the program tuition. Floyd JAM follows the “JAM program model,” which is to provide children with opportunities not only in learning traditional music, but to also perform in small and large groups. Held every Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30, students will play Dungeons & Dragons in a world entirely of their own making. The group will collaborate on building that world first — mapping its geography, developing its cultures and history, and fleshing out the places their characters come from. Each student will create a fully realized character with a backstory, personal motivations, and a defined look and style. When the campaign begins, students will bring those characters to life through roleplay and improvisation, navigating challenges and shaping the story through every decision they make. Held every Friday from 3:30 to 5:30, Drama Society is designed for teens who want to dive deeper into the world of theatre—onstage or backstage. This class explores the foundations of theatre while giving students hands-on experience in a variety of theatrical disciplines. Throughout the session, students will study acting, explore different genres and styles, and learn essential behind-the-scenes skills including stagehand work, costume design, stage makeup, and basic set construction. This fall, Drama Society will produce Anne of Green Gables by Donna Hoke— adapted from L.M. Montgomery's beloved story of an imaginative, fiercely determined girl who finds her place in the world. At the end of the session, students will either perform in the production or serve on the crew, choosing the path that best matches their interests. Drama Society is a true catch-all for aspiring theatre students, offering a welcoming space to discover their strengths and build confidence. The group will collaborate on world-building from the ground up — developing geography, cultures, political structures, and history before the game even begins. Each student will craft a character with depth: a layered backstory, clear motivations, and a distinct voice. As the campaign unfolds through immersive roleplay and ensemble improvisation, students will make consequential choices that shape the world around them and drive the story forward. This exciting, hands-on class, students will dive into Python, a powerful and versatile programming language widely used by developers, data scientists, and engineers at companies like Google, NASA, and Netflix. Python’s easy-to-read syntax makes it perfect for beginners, while its capabilities allow students to explore real-world applications, from creating games to analyzing data. Guided by an experienced instructor, students will work through engaging projects, supported by AI tools that help them debug, brainstorm, and learn independently. This approach teaches both coding fundamentals and the skills needed to collaborate with modern technology. By the end of the course, each student will have gained a solid foundation in Python, confidence in problem-solving, and an understanding of how AI can be a powerful learning partner.

You Don't Know Jack! Get ready to stomp, pluck, and holler—because this fall, June Bug Center's teen theatre program is bringing Appalachian legend to life. You Don't Know Jack is an original one-act musical born right here in Southwest Virginia—written by Jeff McCoy and his students at Pulaski County High School, and a Virginia State One-Act Competition winner. Built on the beloved Jack Tales of Appalachian folklore, this show is rowdy, rootsy, and made for Floyd County. And the best part? This one's got a live band. Teen musicians are invited to join the cast and bring the bluegrass heart of the show to life from the stage. Whether you're a performer, a picker, or both—there's a place for you in this production.
