- Blue Ridge Strings
The Blue Ridge Strings Program is introducing the study of classical music on stringed instruments to students ages 8-18. Through hands-on instruction and creative enrichment, the program supports growth and development by instilling a deep appreciation for music and specific skill in performance. As the program grows, it will expand into a small chamber group to perform classical music in Floyd. For students aged 8 years old to 18 years old. Camp Schedule: Each camp runs for one week and meets 3 hours per day. Snack Break: There is a 20-minute snack break at the halfway point each day. Snacks are generously provided by Feeding Southwest Virginia. Because of this partnership, options are limited—students with dietary restrictions are encouraged to bring their own snack if needed. Pick-Up Policy: A parent or approved pickup person must come inside to pick up their student. Alternate arrangements must be made in advance with the program coordinator and require a signed note. Students will spend the week learning a variety of role playing games that will inspire their imaginations and offer opportunities for creative problem solving, narrative exploration and improvised adventure. Player’s will embody an assortment of unusual characters with unique motivations, work together as a team to achieve narrative goals and help guide the stories with their own creative visions. - Henna Design
Our henna designs class will give your child a lesson in the culture surrounding henna art and designs. We will learn how to affordably make henna and build our own unique mandalas. Students will finish the class with their very own starter henna bag and the list of ingredients we used! Camp Schedule: Each camp runs for one week and meets 3 hours per day. - Robotics Camp
Students will use Mindstorm's EV3 curriculum to design, build, program, and test robots to do a variety of tasks. The Robotics program will engage students to become independent learners and develop skills in collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. - Jitterbugs
Jitterbugs is the perfect way for children to learn about dance, make new friends, and create lasting memories. Designed for movers of all levels, our camps give students the opportunity to try a wide variety of styles! We strive to provide exceptional dance training in a welcoming, supportive atmosphere—promoting a strong work ethic, teamwork, and FUN! The styles of dance we aim to include: ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Musical Theater, Lyrical, Contemporary, Creative Movement etc. For students aged 8 years old to 13 years old. - Computer Camp
Students will work on their own Piper computer for hands-on STEAM education. Each student will use their computer to go on Minecraft missions that will teach them how to build circuits that control LEDs, buzzers, and a variety of sensors. Students will also spend time learning to code using Pipercode. Camp Schedule: Each camp runs for one week and meets 3 hours per day. - Junior Engineers
Students will learn how microcontrollers are used to control devices such as LEDs, temperature and humidity sensors, infrared motion detectors, ultrasonic distance sensors, active and passive buzzers, water level detectors, and a variety of other sensors. Such sensors make up the Internet of Things (IoT) that is extending the traditional Internet. Students will build circuits containing these devices and write code that will make the devices work. They will program in PictoBlox, a visual programming tool and Python, one of the most popular and widely used programming languages. - Computer Club
Held every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30, students will work on their own Piper computer for hands-on STEAM education. Each student will use their computer to go on Minecraft missions that will teach them how to build circuits that control LEDs, buzzers, and a variety of sensors. Students will also spend time learning to code using Pipercode. Please keep any eye on your emails, important information is shared regularly! Tuition is based on a sliding scale. Please see our tuition chart in our handbook to see if you qualify for our reduced tuition. If you would like to apply for reduced tuition, please complete the Reduced Tuition Application. There is a 10% discount for all siblings, and if students sign up for multiple programs (must pay in person to receive a discount).
- Creative Writing
Students will be guided through exercises and activities to help generate ideas and find their own flow state in writing. They will learn about the craft and techniques of creative writing and use them to outline, draft and publish a personal project. The group will contribute these projects to a collaborative zine/magazine that will be completed, as a final project, by the end of the semester. For students aged 13 years old to 18 years old. This camp includes a snack and all learning materials are provided. Please read our handbook carefully and understand all our policies.
- Musical Theatre for Kids
Broadway for kids is designed for theater-loving kids, ages 8-12, to develop their confidence, character and presentation skills through ensemble performance. Campers learn acting, scene study, improvisation, music theory, singing and dancing, while building self-esteem, teamwork skills, and creative potential. For students aged 8 years old to 12 years old. This camp includes a snack and all learning materials are provided. Please read our handbook carefully and understand all our policies.
